These easy nightshade-free, paleo and AIP Chicken Tacos are a breeze to make and so delicious for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Creating AIP-compliant taco seasonings without nightshades and seed spices is a challenge but not impossible. This recipe uses a combination of dried herbs and AIP-compliant spices to create a super flavor seasoning that pairs well with ground chicken but would also likely work well with other ground meats.
Here are the main ingredients in these AIP Chicken Tacos:
- onion and garlic powder, oregano, ginger, cinnamon and turmeric – these are used to create the amazing flavor in the AIP taco seasoning
- zest of one lime – this adds a nice zing to the recipe
- ground chicken – you can substitute with ground turkey or beef
- AIP tortillas – In this recipe I’ve used my Sweet Potato Tortillas as the taco shells, but you could also use my recipe for my classic Gluten Free Tortillas.
- cilantro and green onions – these fresh herbs add both brightness and flavor to this recipe
- avocado – this is optional but a great garnish for these tacos!
Here’s how you make these tacos:
- Begin by combining sea salt, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, ginger, cinnamon, turmeric and lime zest into a small bowl.
- Saute the taco seasoning in olive oil in a large skillet so that the spices release their flavor
- Next, add the ground chicken, cilantro and green onion to the skillet and saute until the chicken is cooked. Taste and adjust salt to taste.
- Assemble the tacos using AIP tortillas of choice, ground meat, avocado, fresh cilantro and any other toppings desired.
Chicken Tacos FAQs
What do I serve these with?
These pair well with pickled onions and additional chopped cilantro. Alternatively, you could serve the taco meat in a bowl with cauliflower rice, AIP guacamole and any other fixings of your choosing.
Can this taco seasoning be used with other recipes?
Absolutely! Sauté veggies using this mix, or substitute the ground chicken with another ground meat in this recipe.
How do I store these tacos?
These are definitely best fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days. I would recommend storing each component of this recipe (ground chicken, tortillas and garnishes) separately in sealed containers. When eating leftovers, reheat the wraps on the stovetop for 30 – 40 seconds before adding the fillings.

I love your youthful energy, and your recipes!
When I attempt to print this recipe, using the print button, the “DO NO SELL….” strip covers up the amount of each ingredient.
What am I doing wrong?
I clicked on it, and put a checkmark in the square… thinking that would make it go away, but it was still there when I tried to print, again.
I’ve copied and pasted many of your recipes because of this… but, wanted to ask if there’s an easier way.

Thanks Debra, I will look into this!

So easy and delicious! Just what I needed in a week of feeling tired and not wanting to cook something that would take hours. Thank you!

This was SOOOO GOOD! I can’t tolerate nightshades anymore and figured that tacos without tomatoes, peppers, and spiciness would be no fun lol. I wasn’t sure about this recipe reading the spice list, but omg what an amazing and genius combination of flavors — way better than classic tacos! Instantly added to our ‘on rotation recipes’ list. I can’t wait to try more of your recipes!

Soooo good!! Sometimes AIP can be boring but the spices here just work so well together and the warm Seite shells give it such a good crunch. Had leftover grilled chicken thighs that I wasn’t sure what to do with so I diced it very small and added it to the warm spices w a little olive oil. Sautéed for a few minutes and it turned out perfectly. Definitely making it again very soon! Every recipe we’ve tried here has been wonderful. Thank you!

Beyond delicious!! These are so flavorful without the use of “regular taco” nightshade spices. I use 1 inch chunks of chicken breast instead of ground chicken and usually top them with avocado, thinly sliced radishes and pickled onions. Jicama wraps from Trader Joes are a great taco shell during AIP elimination phase (or Siete almond/cassava flour tortillas if you’re in reintroduction phase). This has become a regular in my meal rotation, and something I can serve with pride to my non-AIP friends and family. Thank you!

I have a cinnamon allergy. Any idea how this would be without the cinnamon?

I’d say you can omit it without it affecting the taste too much

Love it! Looks easy, yet so delicious. Can’t wait to make this soon!

This is such an especially great seasoning combination. I am oriented toward especially spicy food— hot sauces and peppers were a big big part of my life prior to AIP! I have been adjusting to not using jalapeño and other peppers in my ground mixes. This seasoning combination had me forgetting about my old pepper go-to’s. The lime zest and the turmeric add such a nice brightness! And because I have received advice to eliminate beef for the moment, I doubled this recipe and used half in place of the beef filling for Nicole’s AIP Beef Patties: https://healmedelicious.com/aip-beef-patties/ (which I love). Chicken “Beef” Patties were fantastic, though I honor how key beef is to beef patties! Thank you again! Excited to eat through a few different versions of this combo!

Amber, thank you for this review! You’re so kind!
