This Peppermint Hot Chocolate is the perfect warming, festive drink that is so easy to make. I love sneaking bone broth powder into my baked goods and smoothie bowls for extra protein, and in this hot chocolate it really amps up the nutrition. No, it won’t taste like bone broth, but your gut will thank you!
This AIP elimination stage compliant drink is made using roasted carob powder. If you have reintroduced or can tolerate cacao, feel free to substitute raw cacao powder. I’ve topped this with homemade gluten free marshmallows, but some whipped coconut cream is a great substitute.
Here’s what you’ll need for this AIP Peppermint Hot Chocolate:
- roasted carob powder (sub raw cacao powder for non-AIP option)
- maple syrup
- bone broth powder (beef or chicken)
- full fat, additive free coconut milk
- pinch of sea salt
- pure vanilla extract
- peppermint extract (check ingredients to ensure it’s AIP compliant)
- gluten free marshmallows (optional)
Peppermint Hot Chocolate FAQs
Where can I get AIP marshmallows?
Make your own with this easy recipe or purchase some here.
Can I substitute the peppermint?
If you can’t tolerate peppermint, feel free to omit it. You can substitute with extra vanilla extract for an equally as delicious hot chocolate.
Can I make this coconut-free?
Full fat, additive free coconut milk makes this drink really creamy and lends a beautiful, thick texture. I haven’t tried any alternative milks myself.
